Rockport Humpback Whale Hit By Ship Or Boat

ROCKPORT (WBZ) ― A young humpback whale that was found dead in Rockport earlier this week was hit by a ship or boat.

The whale washed up on Cape Hedge Beach Monday evening.

According to The Gloucester Daily Times, the necropsy showed "major blunt trauma to the chest, neck and head."

New England Aquarium spokesman Tony LaCasse told the paper they believe the whale was hit sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning and they need anyone who saw anything to come forward.

The whale was reportedly about 2 years old. Experts say humpback whales can live nearly 50 years.
