Driver Cited In Deadly Foxboro Crash

FOXBORO (CBS4) ― The driver in the fatal Foxboro crash over the weekend has been cited for his alleged involvement in an accident that killed a 10-year-old girl last weekend.

Aaron Fine, 33, a Mansfield police officer, hit and killed Rose Shatz with a landscaping truck while she was riding her bike in Foxboro. He was off-duty at the time of the accident.

According to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office, Fine has been cited with misdemeanor negligent motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding greater than reasonable for given conditions and improper operation while approaching a bicycle.

Police told CBS4's Bill Shields that Fine was heading east on that street around 2:15 p.m. Saturday, when he saw the girl coming at him, he drove the truck onto the other side of the road. For some reason, the girl turned her bike into the path of the truck.

If Fine is convicted of negligent motor vehicle homicide, he could spend 2 1/2 years in prison.

According to Mansfield Police Chief Arthur O'Neill, Fine has been suspended with pay while the case is reviewed by the town's legal department.
