Hammer Thrown At Van In Route 93 Road Rage Case
Truck Occupants Throw Hammer At Van Used To Transport Elderly People
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
State police are searching for the driver and the occupant of a pickup truck who threw a hammer at a van on Route 93 Wednesday in an extreme case of apparent road rage.
Police officials said an occupant of a dark gray Nissan pickup truck threw a hammer at a passenger van while both vehicles were traveling south on Route 93 in Canton just before Route 95.
Fortunately no one was injured but the hammer smashed the van driver's side rear window. The van is used primarily to transport elderly persons, police said. There were no passengers in the van at the time of the incident.
The driver of the van immediately pulled over to the side of the highway, while the pickup truck fled the scene, state police said.
The hammer was recovered from inside the van.
Police said they are still investigating the motive for the assault but they said road rage played a part.
Police said two white men were in the Nissan truck. It was last seen traveling on Route 1 north toward Boston.
Anyone with information is asked to contact state police in Framingham at 508-820-2250.
