Rutland Man Allgedly Tried To Entice Sex From Teen
Arrested In Public Library on Thursday
RUTLAND (CBS4) ―
A 31-year-old Rutland man was arrested for allegedly posing as a 13-year-old boy on the Internet and trying to entice a 13-year-old girl to have sex with him.
Michael Howe, of Finn Park Road in Rutland used the town's library computers to enter Internet chat rooms and make sexual overtures to an Internet user he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
However, the Internet user was actually Rutland Police Officer Troy J. Chauvinm, who was investigating Howe's internet activities for a month. Chauvinm had recently completed a course of Internet crime investigations, according to Police Chief Joseph R. Baril
Howe was arrested in the library at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. He was held on $15,000 cash bail until his arraignment in Worcester Western District Court on two felony charges enticing a child and attempting to commit assault and battery on a child.
Each charge carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.
Howe was ordered to be held on $20,000 bail.
