RI Man Scammed Out Of $3500 At South Shore Plaza

BRAINTREE (CBS4) ― A Rhode Island man claims he was scammed out of $3500 outside the South Shore Plaza earlier this week.

The victim, a bar owner from Providence, R.I., told Braintree police that the con artist claimed his brother worked at Sears and had an overstock of plasma televisions.

A meeting was arranged outside the customer pick-up center on Tuesday, February 21. The bar owner gave the cash to the scam artist and was given a receipt.

The bar owner was then told to wait while the suspect went inside to get the televisions. He never returned.

Police are trying to identify the suspect by looking at Sears surveillance tape.

Investigators say several scams of this nature have happened at the South Shore Plaza in the past few years.
