Local Man Arrested For Machete Attack
SPRINGFIELD (AP) ―
Springfield police say a machete attack that sent two people to the hospital may have been in retaliation for an earlier stabbing.
Allan Manning, of Springfield, is accused of slashing a 42-year-old man in the throat and a 42-year-old woman in the arms and legs with a machete Monday.
Police say those victims, whose names have not been released, are both in fair condition at a hospital.
Officer Marcia Brown says Manning told police the female victim had stabbed his sister earlier in the day. That incident is still under investigation.
Manning is the only person facing charges.
The 24-year-old was to appear in court Tuesday and is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of mayhem.
