Woman Attacked While Jogging On The Esplanade

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A woman says she was sexually assaulted while jogging on the Esplanade late Saturday night.

She was jogging on a path about a quarter-mile west of the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge when a man grabbed her and attacked her just after 11 p.m. She was later treated at an area hospital.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early to mid-20s, 5' 8" and about 170-180 pounds. He is said to have a shaved head and a chubby build and was last seen wearing dark shorts and a dark t-shirt.

Investigators say it appears to be an isolated incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the assault is asked to call State Police at 617.727.4812.

Police are not warning people to stay away from The Esplanade, but instead they want the public to be protactive.

"In The Esplanade jogging or anywhere in general, if an individual is out during the hours of darkness you want to try to stay in lit areas," said State Trooper Bob Bousquet.

"If possible, travel in groups. If you feel uncomfortable, stop. Ask somebody to escort you along to some place."
