Budget Cuts Force RMV To Trims Hours
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
People can expect to wait in line longer at the Registry of Motor Vehicles thanks to statewide budget cuts.
The RMV announced Friday that it is shortening hours at all RMV branches and that it will no longer be mailing renewal reminders to residents.
Officials said the RMV will open at 9 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m., which is expected to save tens of thousands of dollars each year. Branches that currently stay open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays will now close at 6 p.m.
Statewide budget cuts are also forcing the RMV to discontinue mailings to remind people when it's time to renew their licensees, which is expected to save $800,000 each year.
The
RMV's Web site has services that will allow people to check when it's time to renew their licenses.
