A community is still coming to grips with the violent death of an innocent teen shot on his way home.
Steven Odom, 13, was killed in Dorchester not far from where he lived.
The community came together Saturday night to remember the eighth-grader who they say was very active in his father's neighborhood church.
Those that knew Steven say his faith in God and his love for others were his greatest qualities. All the more reason why the Dorchester community gathered to say good bye to a life gunned down by hatred.
On Thursday, Steven was on his way home from shooting hoops with friends when he was shot in the head by a gunman police say was aiming at someone else.
"As long as he's in my heart... I'll never forget him," said Betty Prichard, Steven's former Sunday school teacher. She says he was a special young man -- a minister's son who loved the church and loved to play the drums. "He was doing great on those drums...it's like something that is taken away that will never be replaced."
On Saturday, mourners released balloons to the heavens -- knowing full well Steven was watching over them.
More than 300 people gathered on Evans Street -- signing and praying for peace in the community.
During the vigil they prayed for Steven's shooter and stood together in peace.
So far, police have not yet made any arrests in the case.
