Repairs Close Storrow Drive Tunnel For Months
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Starting Sunday night, both lanes of the Storrow Drive Tunnel will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. as work crews perform repairs on the structure.
According to the
Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the road will be closed between these hours every night for "several months."
Traffic will be rerouted across the Western Avenue and River Street bridges to Memorial Drive in Cambridge.
The road closure will only affect eastbound traffic.
The cost of the tunnel work, which includes concrete repairs and demolition of tile walls, will cost $11.5 million.
The repairs are supposed to extend the life of the tunnel for another five years.
