Taunton evacuees head for high school shelter Tuesday morning
CBS4
About two-thousand people have been forced to evacuated their homes in Taunton.
They're waiting for the possibility that the Whittenton Pond Dam is going to break and flood their neighborhoods.
Several dozen of them are staying at a shelter at Taunton High School.
Sheila Bergeron is at the high school with her father and nine-year-old daughter, waiting to find out if the dam will break and what will happen to their homes.
Bergeron lives along the Taunton River, about two-and-a-half miles downstream from the deteriorating dam.
Katherine Staines and her family haven't been ordered to evacuated yet. But they're ready.
She told CBS4's Peg Rusconi they brought everything that was in the basement upstairs, and their bags are packed, if and when they are asked to leave.
But for now, all they can do is wait.
