Retired Patriot Ted Johnson Joins CBS4 Sports

BOSTON (CBS4) ― CBS4 News today named former Super Bowl Champion New England Patriot, Ted Johnson, as CBS4/UPN38 Sports Analyst.

As CBS4/UPN 38 Sports Analyst, Johnson will be a regular contributor to CBS4 Sports' "New England Ford Dealers Patriots Game Day" which airs Sundays at 11:30AM on CBS4, as well as "New England Ford Dealers Patriots Fifth Quarter" which airs either on CBS4 or UPN 38 depending on NFL schedules (times TBA), and "Sports Final" on CBS4 Sundays at 11:30PM.

"If you're a sports fan, then you know just how great it is for CBS4 and UPN 38 to be adding Ted Johnson to our sports team," said CBS4 and UPN 38 President & General Manager Julio Marenghi.

"We have the consummate team in place with Bob Lobel, Steve Burton, Dan Roche, and Alice Cook, and now CBS4 and UPN 38 have taken it to the next level…we are the only stations to have a champion athlete on staff lending insights and expertise to our coverage. And, nobody is more composed or more proficient than Ted when it comes to sports commentary and analysis. We are very fortunate to have done this deal."

"I'm excited to join the CBS4 and UPN 38 sports team," said Johnson about his new position. "As a former Patriot, I can provide a unique perspective to New England fans. I know what's going through the minds of the players on the field, I know how the coaches think, and I know how opposing teams strategize. TV is a competitive business, and I'm confident I can help the CBS4/UPN 38 team continue its winning streak as the region's top sports broadcasting team."

Before joining the CBS4/UPN 38 sports team, Johnson was a 10-year, veteran linebacker for the New England Patriots with three Super Bowl wins to his credit.

This past July, Johnson decided to leave professional football saying he decided to retire rather than risk further injury following a series of concussions.

Johnson, 32, was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft out of Colorado. The 6-foot-4, 253-pound linebacker started 106 of 125 regular-season games from 1995 through 2004 and was credited with 865 career tackles and 11½ sacks.

Ted Johnson is one of the most widely-respected and highly-regarded football players in history.

On the news of his retirement, an article paid tribute in this way: "Ted Johnson can walk away from the game holding his head up high, knowing that in the face of a seemingly endless hardship and adversity, he prevailed while remaining a consummate professional, a true football player, and, perhaps above all else, a classic Patriot."

Ted is married and has four children; they live in a suburb outside of Boston.
