Former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson and his wife Jackie are both facing assault and battery charges following an alleged domestic dispute in their Weston home.
The Johnsons were arrested Sunday night at their home on Beaver Road.
According to the police report, Ted Johnson told police both he and his wife are under a doctor's care and there was a dispute over some medication his wife was about to take.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges during their arraignment in Waltham District Court on Tuesday. They are due back in court on September 7th.
According to court records obtained by CBS4, the Johnsons, who have four children, do not want police to pursue the matter and will not testify against one another in court.
The Johnsons released this statement.
"On Sunday, July 16, the Weston Police were called to our home as a result of a misunderstanding. While we understand that private matters may sometimes be deemed newsworthy, we would appreciate the opportunity to address this matter privately. We will have no further comment at this time."
The 33-year-old Johnson retired from the Patriots in 2005 due to repeated concussions. He was drafted by the Patriots in 1995 out of Colorado and played ten seasons for the Patriots. The 6-foot-4-inch, 253-pound linebacker made 865 tackles and 11.5 sacks during his career.
Last season, Johnson worked as a football analyst for CBS4. Two months ago, he informed the station that he has decided to pursue other opportunities this coming season.
