Texting Tip Program Helping Cops Solve Crimes
BOSTON (AP) ―
The Boston Police Department's new anonymous text-message tip program seems to be paying off.
Officials say they've arrested two murder suspects since the high-tech crime fighting technique was implemented earlier year.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis told the Boston Herald that the texting system has worked beyond their expectations, leading to new leads in several cases.
He says the technology allows people with information about crimes to talk with police without fearing retaliation.
Since the texting program became operational on June 15, Boston police have received at least 230 text messages to the Boston Crime Stoppers Unit.
They says that compares to only ten phone calls the unit would typically get each month.
If you'd like to give police any information regarding a crime, just text the word TIP to the number CRIME (27463). You can also call the tip line at 1.800.494.TIPS.
