Truck Driver Charged In Allston Crashes
ALLSTON (WBZ) ―
The driver who lost control and crashed his truck into several vehicles, causing an explosion in Allston Thursday, now faces several charges. Timothy Newton's license has also been suspended.
Newton, 38, of Revere, lost control of his delivery truck and caused a series of crashes along Commonwealth Avenue. He allegedly blacked out before hitting eight vehicles. The wild scene ended when his truck slammed into a car and exploded.
Boston police say he's now charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, and driving to endanger.
WBZ has learned Newton has a lengthy driving record.
His records from the Registry of Motor Vehicles show 61 entries since 1987. His driver's license had been suspended twice before Thursday's incident. He has been in several accidents and has had several speeding citations.
The company who hired him, Wilmington-based New England Delivery, had no comment.
The records indicate Newton does not have a commercial driver's license. Boston police say he did not need one to drive the type of truck involved in the accident, but they are looking to see if he was licensed to transport the chemicals that were on board at the time.
Newton and two others were hurt in the crashes. None of the injuries were serious.
Newton refused to talk to reporters after he was released from the hospital Thursday.
"I really have nothing to say," he said. "I was told not to talk about it yet."
