UMASS May Hike Housing Fees On Campus
AMHERST (CBS4) ―
On-campus housing fees are expected to increase at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the fall of 2006.
The amount of the increase has not been decided, but the rate hikes are directly linked to the $92 million apartment-style dormitories under construction on the north side of campus. Three of the four dorms are set to open in the fall.
The four new dorms will add 864 beds on campus. The apartments will feature four private bedrooms, two full baths, a full kitchen with appliances, a television and common area, cable television, Internet access, laundry machines and air-conditioning.
Currently, a standard double room for eight months rents for 34-hundred dollars, and a single rents for 39-hundred.
A final recommendation on the new rental hikes will go before the university's board of trustees in February.
