If your son or daughter is headed to one of four University of Massachusetts campuses next year, you're going to have to dig a little deeper into your wallet.
Starting in the fall, students will pay generally between $266 and $311 more for their education.
The university's trustees finance panel approved a 3.1 percent increase in fees Wednesday.
Students attending the university's flagship campus in Amherst will see the biggest hike. The in-state cost of attending UMass Amherst next year will be $18,346.
Students at the other campuses will pay less. According to the Boston Globe, the in-state tuition plus room and board will be $18,286 for UMass Dartmouth, and $16,525 for UMass Lowell.
Students at UMass Medical School in Worcester will see an increase in fees of about $151.
The new fee schedule approved Wednesday is in line with President Jack Wilson's goal of keeping increases at or below the rate of inflation.
The fees are used to fund scholarships and faculty salaries, libraries, student recreational opportunities and for other purposes.
The proposal must still be approved by the full board.
