Pelham has appointed an acting police chief to take over the duties of the current chief, who faces an
involuntary manslaughter charge in the accidental shooting death of an 8-year-old boy.
The Board of Selectmen on Monday appointed Lt. Gary Thomann to take over for Edward Fleury.
Fleury, who's been chief since 1991, has kept out of sight since Christopher Bizilj
shot himself in the head with an Uzi submachine gun during a gun fair at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in October.
Board chairman William Martell tells
The Republican of Springfield that Fleury will remain on sick leave until Jan. 6.
Fleury owns the company that sponsored the show, COPS Firearms & Training.
Thomann is a 20-year veteran, and currently the only full-time officer.
