Hundreds of people have been flocking to a hospital in Springfield this week, drawn by what many believe is an image of the Virgin Mary in a window.
On Friday, Mercy Medical Center hired
two experts an engineer and a restoration professional to take a look at the window.
They said there appears to be some sort of deposit between the panes of glass, which could be the result of mineral buildup.
Hospital executive Mark Fulco says the engineers, who asked not to be identified, observed the window from the inside and outside.
Their report indicated the image may be a mineral deposit that built up in the sealed area between the window's two panes of glass.
Fulco said there's likely a scientific explanation for the buildup and a glass sample from a similar window will be evaluated.
Hundreds of people, some weeping, have come to the Mercy Medical Center to
view and photograph the window since the image was first noticed in a vacant, second-story office Tuesday.
