A second person has died after last weekend's crash in Somerville, where an SUV fleeing from police slammed into a taxi.
Walid Chahine passed away Sunday morning, exactly one week after his taxi was hit by an SUV driven by Javier Morales, 29, of Somerville.
Chahine was 45 years old. He leaves a wife, Fida, and their four-year-old son Joseph.
He had an electrical engineering degree and dreamed of the day when he could stop driving a cab.
Morales was being chased by State Police in the early morning on May 27 when he collided with Chahine's cab.
A passenger in the taxi, Paul Farris, 23, of Medford was killed. His girlfriend, Katelyne Hoyt, suffered serious injuries.
Morales was arraigned in his hospital bed at Massachusetts General Hospital Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty to several charges including motor vehicle homicide and was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail. He is due in Somerville District Court on June 29th.
The State Police are investigating their pursuit policies in the wake of the tragedy.
