4th West Nile Virus Case Reported In Mass.
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Health officials have confirmed a fourth human case of West Nile Virus in Massachusetts.
The Department of Public Health has identified the latest patient as a 49-year-old man from Medford.
He became ill at the end of September and is still in the hospital.
The unidentified man is the third person to contract the illness from mosquito exposure within the state. The fourth person was exposed outside of Massachusetts.
Meanwhile, New Hampshire announced that four new mosquito pools have tested positive for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus. The towns - Brentwood, Fremont, Kingston and Newton - are close to the Massachusetts border.
In an effort to reduce exposure risks, people are urged to drain standing water and avoid going outside during peak mosquito hours.
