Search For Bulger Leads FBI To Needham Look-Alike
NEEDHAM (CBS4) ―
The FBI's long search for fugitive mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger took an unusual turn to Needham earlier this month.
Agents working on a tip questioned an elderly man who, it turns out, only looks like Bulger.
Jeanette Smith says she was at work when two agents came to see her husband Henry John Smith. He's reportedly had a couple of strokes so he's under the watch of a home-care nurse. The nurse answered the door and let the agents in. Mrs. Smith says they asked him a few questions and off they went.
Smith says someone in the neighborhood called the FBI saying Bulger was at the house. She admits her husband does look like Bulger, but the whole thing was quite hysterical to them.
Mr. Smith told the Boston Herald he can't recall the questions he was asked.
The FBI had no comment on the incident.
Bulger went on the run in 1995, when he was about to face a federal racketeering indictment. He's charged with killing 19 people.
He's on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list.
