FBI Releases Video Of Whitey Bulger

BOSTON (CBS4) ― Investigators involved in the search for James "Whitey" Bulger, released never-before-seen video footage of the fugitive mobster Tuesday evening.

The Bulger Fugitive Task Force says the video is more than 25 years old. It depicts mannerisms and gestures of the 76-year-old Bulger that may be recognized by people who have unknowingly come in contact with him over the years. "The way he gestures with his hands, how he brings his hand to the hip, the other use of the hands itself might be at least distinctive enough or somebody might say, 'I've seen somebody do those things similarly' and pick up the phone," said U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan.

The video released is nearly three minutes long, and depicts several scenes of Bulger at an auto shop on Lancaster Street near North Station, which was, at one point, his headquarters until he found out it was being bugged by police.

The video was made by the Massachusetts State Police during their criminal investigation of Bulger and is being released due to a request made by an unidentified international cable news outlet.

The Task Force hopes the international exposure of the video will help with their investigation.

Bulger disappeared in late December 1994 after being tipped by FBI agent, John Connolly, that he was about to be indicted on racketeering charges.

Bulger is number three on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List in terms of reward money leading to an arrest. There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his capture.
