Possible Bulger Sighting Sends FBI To Italy
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The FBI is investigating a new lead in the hunt for fugitive mob boss Whitey Bulger.
WPRI in Providence reports federal agents recently received pictures of what appears to be Bulger and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, in Italy.
Sources told WPRI, agents ran two photographs through facial recognition software. The computer was unable to determine if the man was Bulger, but the photo of the woman showed a possible match.
The FBI reportedly flew to Italy three weeks ago to follow the lead.
There's been no official comment on the report, the FBI would only say that neither Bulger nor Greig is in custody.
Bulger has been on the run since 1995. He's suspected in at least 19 murders.
