Man Fearful As Ex Who Hired Hit Man Gets Paroled

GARDNER (WBZ) ― A Gardner man is concerned for his life, knowing that his ex-wife, who tried to have him killed, is getting out of prison.

William Kotoski was among the last to find out she'd been granted early parole.

Kotoski runs a well-known Gardner furniture store just off Route 2.

"You live in constant fear of what she's going to do next," he said.

His ex-wife, Caroline, hired a hit man four years ago to have him murdered.

On Thursday, she'll walk out of prison after being freed by the parole board nine months early. For William Kotoski, the fear begins again.

"I cannot sleep at night, every sound you hear at night you wake up," he said. "I go up the stairs two or three times to check if the kids are OK."

Kotoski never knew about the parole hearing and never had a chance to provide testimony as a victim.

The Worcester District Attorney admits his file was lost, and so was his opportunity to speak out.

"Out of all the pieces of paper to lose, how could they lose that one?" William Kotoski said.

Kotoski was supposed to be hit at work where his movements were followed. What his ex didn't know was she had hired an undercover state trooper for $15,000.

"How come you don't want this to look like a suicide?" the trooper asked her.

"No life insurance," she said.

"Now, you also mentioned something about no guns, right?" the trooper said.

"I just want it to look like an accident," she said.

Kotoski has appealed to the governor for help and knows only that his ex-wife will be monitored electronically. He said he is afraid she'll try again.

"You do whatever you can as a father to protect your kids. I'm doing the best I can," he said.

William Kotoski says it was all about money for his ex who served half her 18-month sentence. The parole board said it believes she could be supervised outside prison.

The Worcester County District Attorney has apologized for the paperwork mistake that left Kotosky out of the loop about the parole hearing.
