Arrest Made In Woman's 'T' Assault

BROOKLINE (WBZ) ―

Police said they have arrested a suspect who they believe attempted to rape a young woman after she got off the "T" in Brookline early Wednesday morning.

The 25-year-old woman told police the attack happened after she got off a Green Line train in Brookline Village around 1:30 a.m., as she was walking toward her home.

According to police, the suspect started talking to the victim while they were both on the train. The victim said the suspect told her his name was Sammy Prado and he worked at the Whydham Hotel.

Police arrested Samuel Prado at Logan Airport Wednesday night after he was questioned for allegedly harassing people at the airport, officials said.

A security guard recognized the Prado's name from television media reports.

When the victim got off the train, she said the suspect followed her through a park and down Cypress Street.

While she was on the cell phone with her mother, police say the suspect attacked. "All the mother could then hear was 'Leave me alone, get out of here.' And the phone went dead," said Captain John O'Leary of the Brookline Police Department.

According to police, the suspect broke the phone, forced the victim into a driveway and attempted to rape her -- but she fought back. "She yelled, she screamed, and she was able to break free from him," explained O'Leary. "She ran to the nearest door, banged on the door and was able to get inside the doorway."

The woman was shook up, but not hurt. Police say the victim did a great job fending off her attacker.

Police are looking to see if Prado is linked to an attack that happened last fall at a "T" stop near 1200 Beacon Street in Brookline.

Police said Prado is homeless and was originally from Los Angeles.  He has been charged with assault with intent to rape, intimidating a witness and unarmed robbery among other charges.  He is scheduled to be arraigned next week in Brookline District Court.
