Chemical-Soaked Rag Used In Abduction Attempt

ABINGTON (WBZ) ― A man is under arrest in Abington, accused of trying to kidnap a woman off the street Thursday night. According to the Brockton Enterprise, police say the suspect had a chemical-soaked rag, which they believe he intended to use to overcome the woman.

Araujo Vanderley, 55 of Quincy is charged with attempted kidnapping, attempted robbery and assault and battery.

The 23-year-old victim told police she was walking along a wooded stretch of Washington Street when Araujo jumped out and grabbed her, the paper reports. She fought him off and flagged down a passing car.
