Lake Re-Opens After Alligator Sightings

FRAMINGHAM (AP) ― A Framingham lake has reopened to swimmers even though officials are taking seriously a teenager's claims that he spotted an alligator in the water.

Fifteen-year-old James Boudreau says he saw a 5- to 6-foot alligator in Lake Waushakum twice last week.

Police searched the lake over the weekend to no avail and Framingham's animal control officer set a trap that so far has snared just two snapping turtles.

The lake reopened on Monday, but beachgoers were given an information sheet detailing what has been done to catch the alligator.

Bill Davis of the state Department of Fisheries and Wildlife says it is quite possible that what Boudreau spotted was an alligator. But he says it also could have been a large snapping turtle, as the animals have similar tails.
