Harvard Buys Trash Cans To Combat Allston Rats
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The City of Boston will be handing out over 2,000 rodent-resistant trash cans to residents in North Allston paid for by Harvard University to help combat the rat problem some say was caused by the 5-acre hole the school excavated for its new science complex.
A representative from the school tells the paper the construction project is not related to Allston's rat problem, but the school is helping combat the rodent issue anyway.
2,600 Allston residents are getting 64-gallon wheeled trash bins that are made of heavy plastic and have attached lids. Each bin retails for about $100, the paper reports.
Officials tell the Herald, they hope the bins, in conjunction with educating residents about covering their trash cans and baiting the sewer's around Harvard's construction site, will help reduce the number of rodents roaming around Allston.
