Arlington Police Officer Attacked On Detail

ARLINGTON (WBZ) ― A Lexington man is charged with attacking a police officer and trying to take his gun during a struggle at a traffic detail in Arlington.

Arlington police say Albert Sweet, 38, rode his bike up to a construction site on Massachusetts Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, jumped off the bike and rushed towards Officer Brandon Kindle.

Sweet was "shouting suicidal and homicidal remarks" when he lunged toward Kindle and tried to take his gun from the officer's holster, according to police.

Sweet was arrested after a violent struggle. He's charged with assault with intent to murder, attempted larceny of a firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a police officer.

He was held overnight at Bridgewater State Hospital. He will be arraigned Thursday in Cambridge District Court.
