Drag Racing Eyed As Cause Of Deadly Ashland Crash

ASHLAND (WBZ) ― A teen was killed in what police say is a drag racing accident in Ashland.

John Curtin, 19, was driving down Eliot Street around 9 p.m. Monday night when he flipped over and struck a telephone pole, police said. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

The second vehicle involved in the crash was being driven by Robert Supple, 19. He was arrested at the hospital and charged with racing motor vehicle, speeding, reckless operation of a car and operating under the influence.

Police believe Supple and Curtin, who are both from Ashland, did know each other.

Supple will be arraigned on Tuesday.

About 800 NStar customers lost power as a result of the crash.
