A babysitter and three young children were injured in a serious crash in Ashland Thursday afternoon.
The 19-year-old babysitter lost control of the car and crashed into a pole, injuring her and three young kids -- ages 6, 3 and 18 months. Their conditions are said to be serious, though all victims were conscious when they were transported to area hospitals.
The wreck happened on East Union Street around 3 p.m., which remained closed Thursday evening as police reconstructed the accident.
Police said the babysitter became distracted by the children at one point and crashed into a pole.
Several rescue crews, including Life Flight choppers responded to the scene at East Union and Cedar streets.
Police are investigating whether there were enough child restraints in the car for the kids. They said there were only two child restraints in the car when there should have been three.
Massachusetts law requires children under the age of 8 to be fastened and secured by a child passenger restraint unless they are more than 57 inches in height.
