The doctor stabbed at a Massachusetts General Hospital office last week "continues to improve each day," according to her husband.
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon exactly one week after the attack - Claude Desrosiers said his wife Dr. Astrid Desrosiers "wants to get well quickly so she can get back to her patients."
Dr. Desrosiers was repeatedly stabbed by her patient, Jay Carciero of Reading, during their session October 27 at her Staniford Street office.
Carciero was then shot to death by off-duty special police officer Paul Langone of Reading after failing to comply with Langone's order to drop the knife.
"My deepest appreciation goes to the gentleman who had the courage to go into the room to help my wife during the attack. He saved her life. My family and I will forever be grateful to him for stepping forward and doing what he was trained to do in the midst of a horrible situation," Claude Desrosiers said Tuesday.
"I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the thousands of people who have been praying for my wife, Astrid Desrosiers, and our family during the past week. The outpouring of support from so many has been truly remarkable and comforting, and it has helped our family get through this difficult time. Your prayers are working. Astrid continues to improve every day."
Desrosiers also had a message for Carciero's family:
"I want to say to the family who lost their loved one in this incident that I hope they can be strong. I know this is a painful and difficult time, and they are in our prayers."
