An electrical short circuit is being blamed for an early morning fire that caused a lot of damage to a popular Back Bay restaurant. Boston Firefighters responded to the Atlantic Fish Co. on Boylston Street around 6:30 a.m.
Firefighters say an employee noticed smoke when they reported to work and that the fire had likely been smoldering for a while.
The initial investigation shows the fire actually started next door, in the ceiling of the Crate & Barrel store.
Damage is estimated at $1.6 million. The Atlantic Fish Co. suffered the most smoke and water damage. Owners say they hope to reopen within a couple days.
Residents in apartments next door were evacuated for a short time because of all the smoke, but later allowed to return to their homes.
Four firefighters were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
