Norovirus Outbreak Forces Babson College To Close
100 Students Sickened By Infectious Virus
WELLESLEY (WBZ) ―
About 100 Babson College students have been infected with the Norovirus, which has forced to the school to close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, college officials said at an afternoon news conference.
The closing will last for a few days while campus buildings are cleaned with the hope of preventing further spread of the bug.
Students are allowed to stay in the dorms but all classes are cancelled.
Noroviruses are the cause of the stomach flu and gastroenteritis. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping. Some victims get a fever, headaches, muscle aches and fatigue.
The symptoms usually last one to two days. The biggest health concern is dehydration because some people are unable to drink enough liquids to replace the fluids they lost from vomiting or diarrhea, the Center for Disease Control says.
