Infant Hit By Bullet Inside Mattapan Home

MATTAPAN (WBZ) ― A 6-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital after being shot inside an apartment on Fairlawn Street in Mattapan Monday night.

Police said the father of the child was shot through the hand while holding the infant. The bullet passed through the father's hand and hit the baby.

The baby was taken to Boston Medical Center and rushed into the operating room, police said. The father is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the suspect fired the shots from outside the apartment.

It is unclear if the shooting was random, or if the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Police are looking for a newer model silver or gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with heavily tinted windows.
