NYPD Officer Killed In N.H. Bike Week Crash
CENTER HARBOR, N.H. (AP) ―
A New York City police officer has died from injuries he suffered in a crash during the Lake Region's annual Motorcycle Week, police said.
William Weghorst, 39, lost control of his motorcycle on Route 25 late Tuesday night and ran off the road, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.
He got immediate first-aid from two emergency medical technicians who were at a nearby house and was airlifted later to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, where he died Wednesday, police said.
Weghorst joined the New York Police Department in 1995 and worked as a patrolman in Manhattan, the department said Friday.
Police are still investigating Tuesday night's crash, but said it appears speed played a role.
In New Hampshire, motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets. Motorcycle Week began last weekend and runs through Sunday.
