Boston Man Accused of Robbing Blind Man At ATM

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A 47-year-old West Roxbury man will face charges for robbing a blind man at knifepoint in an ATM.

The crime happened June 20 at the Sovereign Bank on Centre Street.

The 59-year-old victim told police he was attempting to withdraw $50 when the suspect shouted, "Give me the money or I will stick you."

The victim also said the suspect put him in a head lock, took his wallet and ran out of the bank.

The robbery was captured by surveillance camera. The suspect, Jerome Tate, was also caught on camera at a later date attempting to withdraw money from the ATM with the victim's bank card.

Thanks to some help from a cooperative witness who recognized Tate's fishing hat, officers were able to make the arrest this afternoon.

Tate has a history of larcenies in the area. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday at West Roxbury District Court.
