Police have found a bloody mop at the home of a father whose 5-year-old son is missing, the
Lynn Daily Item is reporting.
According to the newspaper, investigators found the mop in Ernesto Gonzalez' Brightwood Terrace apartment on Monday during a search of the home. The report also says blood was found on a pine cleaner bottle. It also said the father had "an open cut and a bandaged finger," which he would not explain.
Gonzalez' son, Giovanni, has been missing since Sunday when his mother went to get him from a weekend visit with his father.
Gonzalez has refused to cooperate with police and won't say what happened to Giovanni.
He is being held on $500,000 cash bail on charges of child endangerment.
Giovanni's mother, Daisy Colon, has desperately pleaded to Gonzalez to tell police where their son is.
Colon said she has received an outpour of support from the community as she clings to hope that her son will be found safe.
Investigators received a tip Thursday that led them to search
Flax Pond. It turned out to be a false alarm as police recovered the remains of an animal.
Their search has spanned through Lynn all the way to
Puerto Rico where Ernesto Gonzalez is from. Colon has also made pleas to his family for information about her son's whereabouts.
