Boston-bound passengers who spent an unexpected night in Miami after their plane was diverted because of a written bomb threat found on board arrived at Logan Airport this afternoon, about 15 hours later than expected.
"It was really scary," said Dana Mackenzine of Moultonborough, New Hampshire.
Some of the 168 passengers aboard American Airlines flight 1640 when it turned back to Miami Thursday night described how the tense moments unfolded 40 minutes after takeoff.
"All of a sudden, they made an announcement saying there was a threat to the plane so they were going to land us," explained Elizabeth Marrocco of Warwick, R.I.
Eugune Emmanuel of Boston said passengers were told not to move or touch anything.
"It was pretty scary. That's for sure, to turn around and go back to the airport, but everything went well. I think they did a nice job on providing our safety," said John Madeira of Naples, Florida.
An FBI spokesman says the word "bomb" was in the note found in one of the plane's bathrooms. Luggage was re-screened. A TSA spokesman says nothing was found.
In spite of their unnerving experience, the consensus among passengers with whom we spoke was that all agencies involved handled the incident well.
The threat remains under investigation.
