Repair work to the
Longfellow Bridge in
Boston is underway Monday night. The
Massachusetts Highway Department and the
Department of Conservation and Recreation said crews will be fixing areas of the bridge that were pointed out as areas of concern during an inspection.
According to officials, the bridge will not be closed as the repair work is done. "Engineers from
DCR,
MassHighway, and the engineering firm conducting the review worked together and reached a consensus repair plan, which will be complete over the next few nights," said DCR Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan Jr.
Crews will be repairing two beams that are providing additional support for the bridge. Officials said the repair work needs to be done to ensure the structural safety of the beams.
The work will be conducted between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. and will last for the next two or three days. The repair work is not expected to cause any traffic problems.
