Flaherty After Defeat: 'Change Takes Time'

Read: Jon Keller's Blog

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Michael Flaherty says he had no regrets, and wants to face off with Mayor Tom Menino again in four years.

 Read: Election Results

Flaherty teamed up with third place finisher Sam Yoon six weeks ago, and the team ran on the message that it is time for a change.

But they couldn't unseat the four-term mayor and his well-oiled political machine.

In his concession speech, Flaherty stood on stage with his wife and three children, and Yoon and his family, and told the crowd of friends and supporters that he was sorry that he couldn't deliver a win for them Tuesday night.

He said although the outcome wasn't what they had hoped for, he felt they raised people's expectations and contributed to an insightful conversation about the future of the city.

"What we've learned today is that change takes time."

Yoon told the crowd, "This hurts for all of us, but we can't stop fighting."

He says he cares too much about the city of Boston for this to end on this night.

Both Flaherty and Yoon say they will continue to be involved in the city, and will be keeping a watchfrul eye on the current administation.

Yoon wouldn't talk about his future political ambitions, but Flaherty said when he called Mayor Menino to concede,

"I had a brief conversation with the mayor and congratulated the mayor and said let's do this again in four years."
