Boston Drivers Beware: Parking Ticket Prices Spike
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Aside from competing for limited and pricey parking in the city, Boston drivers will now face steep fines for parking illegally.
On Wednesday, the Boston City Council voted 11-2 to approve Mayor Thomas Menino's proposal to raise fines for parking illegally in the city. Menino has argued tickets should be raised since they have not increased in more than 10 years.
Some tickets have jumped to $100, including those for parking in front of fire hydrants and in fire lanes, which is up from about $75 and $40.
The ticket hikes apply to those parking illegally in the main thoroughfares of the city and the downtown area, which does not include residential streets.
Menino estimates the increase will generate $13 million in additional revenue next year.
