Man Sues Boston Police Over Alleged Beating
BOSTON (AP) ―
A 29-year-old man has filed a lawsuit against six Boston police officers, claiming they severely beat him because they were angry he was filming them with his cell phone.
Michael O'Brien, a correctional officer for the Middlesex Sheriff's Office, said in a federal lawsuit filed Thursday that he suffered a brain injury in the March 16 beating.
O'Brien claims Officer David Williams led an attack on him after responding to a car accident involving O'Brien's friend. O'Brien claims Williams threw him to the ground and choked him after another officer grabbed his cell phone while he filmed police.
O'Brien was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on one of the officers.
A police spokesman said he had not seen the lawsuit and could not immediately comment.
