Faneuil Hall Is Fourth Hottest Tourist Destination
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace is the fourth most popular tourist destination in the United States with more than 20 million visitors each year, according to ForbesTraveler.com.
At the top of the list is New York City's Times Square. Second and third place goes to the Las Vegas Strip and the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C.
Another Massachusetts hot spot that made the list is the Cape Cod National Seashore, ranking in at No. 22. ForbesTraveler.com says about 4.35 million tourists flock to check out the lighthouses, cranberry bogs and the more than 44,600 acres of preserved coastline.
The historical Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 by Peter Faneuil, a wealthy Boston merchant, and also includes the restored 19th-century Quincy Market. Today, shoppers account for a large share of visitors, though the spot is largely attractive to tourists because of its rich history.
