Boy, 3, Badly Burned By Fireworks
LEOMINSTER (WBZ) ―
A 3-year-old boy was severely burned on Friday by fireworks used in an illegal display in Leominster.
According to the town's fire department, a Roman candle device tipped over and hit the toddler, who suffered second and third degree burns on his inner thighs, his hands, genitals and his lower lip.
The toddler, who is from Merrimack, N.H., was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment. There is no word on the child's condition.
Police Lt. Michael Goldman said Sean Maloney, 37, was shooting the fireworks from a bucket near a house where the family was staying.
Goldman said the bucket fell over, and two fireworks hit Maloney's son as he sat on a swing.
Maloney will likely be charged with illegal possession of fireworks at minimum, police said.
