The bus driver accused with leaving a 3-year-old special needs child
alone on a bus for five hours in Northbridge will be charged with reckless endangerment of a child.
School and police officials say Peter Quinlan, 69, picked up the little boy at 8:30 a.m. on May 11, went to the Balmer Elementary School, where the boy attends pre-school, dropped off other kids and went back to the Vendetti Bus Company yard. It was not until the bus went to the high school, about 1:30, that Quinlan found the child still belted in his seat.
The bus company owner had no comment and referred WBZ to the superintendent of schools who said the boy's family was immediately notified after learning he'd been left on the bus, but not when he failed to show up at pre-school.
The superintendent said all procedures of the bus company and the schools are being reviewed. Quinlan and a bus monitor have been fired by the bus contractor for Northbridge Public Schools.
Quinlan will appear in Uxbridge District Court on June 15 to answer to the endangerment charge.
