Lawmakers Plan Hearing On Uzi Death

BOSTON (AP) ― Massachusetts lawmakers are planning a hearing on the death of an 8-year-old Connecticut boy who accidentally shot himself with a machine gun during a firearms show in Westfield.

On Nov. 17, the state Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will hold a morning hearing in the Statehouse. They'll hear testimony on current gun laws and gun club shows, and are also expected to consider new, more restrictive laws.

Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Conn., died Oct. 26 when he lost control of a 9 millimeter Micro Uzi and shot himself in the head.

The boy attended the Westfield Sportsman's Club with his father, who said he allowed his son to shoot the gun. Bizilj was being helped by a certified instructor.

The Hampden County District Attorney said he's investigating whether state law allows children to fire machine guns even with permission and supervision.
