U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch has decided against running in the special election to succeed the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.
"The challenge of putting together the resources necessary to wage a statewide campaign in less than 90 days is insurmountable," Lynch said is a statement released late Tuesday morning.
His decision leaves Rep. Michael Capuano as the only Massachusetts congressman planning to run for the seat.
He is planning to announce later this week.
Attorney General Martha Coakley was the first Democrat to formally declare.
City Year co-founder Alan Khazei announced Tuesday he is taking out nomination papers to be a candidate in the Dec. 8 Democratic primary.
State Sen. Scott Brown and Canton selectman Bob Burr are the only declared Republican candidates.
The general election is Jan. 19.
Kennedy died Aug. 25 of brain cancer.
