The Red Sox are banged up and they may be looking for some help from the San Diego Padres.
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Sox have placed a waiver claim on Padres right fielder
Brian Giles.
Giles, 37, is hitting .296 with 6 home runs and 37 RBI's this season.
He is making $9 million this season and his contract has a club option for $9 million for 2009, according to Olney, who added that Giles also has a limited no-trade clause and the Red Sox are one of the teams that would need his permission for a trade.
There has been no comment from the Red Sox or Padres. Giles's agent had no comment for ESPN.
The Red Sox have been slowed by injuries. David Ortiz spent nearly two months on the disabled list and has struggled at the plate since his return. Mike Lowell missed a game this week with a sore hip and Kevin Youkilis left Wednesday's game in Kansas City after he was hit in the right hand by a pitch.
